The End of London Fashion Week

Image
Two more shows before we leave London. Love the rock star prints and simple silhouettes at Sinha-Stanic. Fashion Fringe is a collection of four undiscovered UK designers. My favorite of the four, Eun Jeong Hong, had an all white collection of what looked like braided jersey. (I doubt her start up label Go By a Secret Path is available in the US.) She ended up winning the show's grand prize. Of the other designers, I also liked the fun appeal of LF Markey's bright and structured dresses. Image source style.com .

Save or Splurge: Workwear Dresses

Image
Dresses are easy, effortless attire for work. When putting together an outfit proves too difficult for your pre-coffee brain, a dress provides the option of just throwing something on and looking great. Basic dresses are always a great way to experiment with accessories because the dress is a good blank canvas to show off a funky necklace, bright shoes, patterned tights or a fun belt (just not all at once). Basic workwear dresses are versatile, easy to wear, and professional. You can throw on a nice jacket to add a layered look and a little more presence. This is normally where I would say these dresses are a splurge because they bring so much to your wardrobe, but I don't see any reason that you must spend a lot of money. These dresses, like t his gray pleated dress pictured above, do not have to cost a lot. This one is from Target and it costs $24.99. I believe I purchased it on sale so it cost me less. It's chic, basic and professional. It has nice shape and looks even bett...

Vintage Picks: 1950s Dresses

Maybe it's my defensive reaction to all the boxy jumpsuits I've seen on the runway this month, but I'm in the mood for reliably flattering 1950s dresses. Just show me a full skirt and nipped waist. More London Fashion Week Prints

Image
Friday, I wrote about some of the fun prints walking the runway in London. Fashion week has since moved on to Milan, but London still rolled out the unique prints. Peter Pilotto's magnified nature prints were a talking point, and this was his first show! Josh Goot is also a relative new comer, and his water color scans and bright colors put me in a beach mood. I'm not usually one for African inspired prints, but Duro Olowu's interpretation looked more professional chic and less safari souvenir. His clothes would be an excellent way to add fun to your work wear. Image source style.com .

2008 Emmy Red Carpet

Image
The 60th annual Emmy awards were last night. Like all red carpet events, celebrities relied on Grecian-inspired gowns and generally ignored the amazing looks coming down the world's runways. Even so, some women managed to stand out. If Christina Applegate's dress wasn't patterned or if she hadn't paired the look with old Hollywood glamour red lips and nails, she would have been another star in a Grecian gown. Those details propel her Reem Acra dress to one of me favorite looks of the night. Is Grace Kelly coming to anyone else's mind? Vanessa Williams was also a show-stopper in print. Her black and white one shoulder gown by Kevan Hall was classy but different. Marcia Cross wore a soft Eli Saab confection, thus helping women every where live out their princess fantasies. It's a nice change from her usual jewel tone retro glamour look. The color is nice on her and the flower detail is rich. Also in the hot red-head category, Christina Hendricks from Mad Men . (No...

The Frye Boot Watch Begins

Image
Last winter, we received hit after hit and email after email about the Frye Adrienne boot . (It's back this season, and I'm already on sale watch.) I have a pair, and they're worth the hype. Will the company's hot-streak continue? This year, Frye has three more offerings that are flying off the racks. Also in the Adrienne's military vein is the Paige Buckles boot. It's available in black, brown, grey and navy. The Piper Studded boot is over $400, but Endless is almost out of their early stock. If you're a size 10 and want black, you can get it now without waiting for the restock. My bet for the Frye boot of the season is this green fold-over Ava Button bootie . (It's also available in a sweet grey.) Wouldn't it be perfectly sexy with everything? What do you think will be the boot of the season?
