The current state of shoes leaves a lot to be desired, which has sent me on a hunt for more interesting shoes. These shoes from Golden Age are a bit pricey, but they are packed with timeless style. For Halloween (yes, forever ago), I dressed up like a science officer from Star Trek: The Original Series . This involved big hair and dramatic eyes. Since then, I've been hooked on 1960s eye makeup. For a simple, everyday homage to this style, I dab white on my waterline and use Benefit Push-Up Liner (so easy to use!) for a thick wing. Fake eyelashes are an absolute must for perfecting the look, but it's not something I do everyday. You can play with the 1960s even more by outlining your eyelid with liner or a bright color. Remember, keep your lips neutral, especially if you're opting for one of the more graphic interpretations of this style.

At least once a week, I post pictures of j ewelry to our Facebook page. While looking through that file the other day, I realized I have an Art Deco preference. The jewelry below is nearly 100 years old, but it's so simple yet detailed that you could wear it now without it screaming vintage . That's not too surprising consider that many classic jewelry styles from Chanel's pearls to Bulgari's snakes debuted at this time. Platinum, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires were popular materials during the boom of the 1920s, but I'm fond of the era's fondness for less precious materials like onyx, jade and lapis. No need to hang on to your wallet. These antique pieces by Cartier and Tiffany are out of most budgets.

Happy Valentine's day. If you're not the type for romantic plans, I hope you at least enjoy some chocolate or the fact that it's Friday. The Women is a rather strange film. There are no men seen in the entire thing, yet it doesn't quite pass the Bechdel Test for a film that really represents women. Still, it's packed with tons of witty dialogue (even if the outdated ideas and back-stabbing women make me lose my ability to speak), and over the top fashion. The plot unfolds at the hands of a manicurist peddling Jungle Red nail polish, and in this film, it's a jungle out there for women who want to keep or get a man. Its not just the polish name thats appropriate, the town gossip (played by Rosalind Russell) gets a dress covered in eyes (as if she had trouble seeing everyone else's business). The fashion treat in the film is a technicolor fashion show. The rest of the film is in black and white, but the novelty of technicolor made the plot-dragging fashion sequence a big deal to audiences of the day.
