Fashion DIY Round Up

Image
It's spring, which always gives me the itch to clean up my wardrobe a little. It also gives me an urge to go on a shopping spree, but my budget has been spree-free for a few years now. This means I won't be throwing anything out during my spring cleaning. Instead, I'll be attempting to re-invent and revive some stuff I already have. Here are a few projects I'm looking into. I have some white and light colored tights with stains from some black shoes so I give them new life with Bust's DIY Tie Dye Guide . I'll be hunting thrift stores and garage sales for beads and buttons so I can try some embellishments like this on a few stained/ripped items I have: DIY Beaded Hoodie or Button Embellished Top (pictured). I don't trust myself do to with with tights (and I avoid bleach), but I have some old black leggings that could work with some DIY baubles . This one is way beyond my skill level, but if you are sewing savvy, you can turn an old men's skirt into a su...

Spring Shopping at T.J. Maxx & Marshalls

Image
One of our few shining perks at Fashion Me Fabulous (aside from getting to know you, of course), is our relationship with the good people at T.J. Maxx/Marshalls. Occasionally they'll send us gift cards in exchange for writing about our shopping experience. We thought this time we'd actually tell your our discount store shopping method, because yes, we're that organized about our shopping. Jael's Strategy Shop with a friend who can help you spot deals. Spread out and search everything. You may be looking for cardigans, but check out the shoes anyway. Those studded flats you were drooling over at Macy's last month may now be at sale at T.J. Maxx. Remember who you are. True, those orange pants may only be $20, but will you wear them? In the same vein, if it doesn't fit like a dream, put it back. Keep an open mind. My last two pairs of jeans were discovered as a joke when I said "See, this is how horrible random jeans fit me," and they were both amazing cu...

The Horror: Prom 2010

Image
I have a million catty things to say about these clearly-you-don't-have-a-mother prom gowns, but the actual product descriptions on Cyber Gown can't be topped. This desperately wanting to be J.Lo dress is promoted as "ultra western in design." But what does this sentence mean? " The modern day styling is followed for embellishments as the embellishment is make to show the prefect body curves." For less than $50, you could be a belly dancing showgirl "with a back central slit hence riveting splendor to the utmost level of appreciation." A head is not required for riveting splendor. Flower boobs . It doesn't matter if you call it couture, this dress dress will not make you Halle Berry in Elie Saab . The rest of the site is worth a look for the chuckle factor. Now, call your mother and thank her for not letting you wear that bedazzled scarf top and bell bottom set to prom in '01.

Editor's Pick of the Week: Denim Moto Jacket

Image
Jael Paris and I have the same McQ Alexander McQueen for Target grey denim motorcycle jacket, which we both purchased last year. It has cropped sleeves and is just the right length. It has become a standby for both of us. In fact, we wear it so much we frequently end up matching when we see each other. A lightweight cropped denim jacket is perfect for spring. Since it's grey and doesn't look to denim-like it still works well with jeans. I love to wear mine with soft, pretty dresses. It adds a little edge and keeps me warm during the inconsistent spring weather. Sadly, our favorite McQueen jacket is no longer available, but we found this similar DKNY jacket on sale for only $39.99 .
