Maybe it's because fall is back-to-school time and I spend every Saturday watching college football, but I always want blazers for fall. The more prep school dna they have, the better. You can extend the season of your flirty spring dresses by topping them with a blazer or just toss one one with jeans and an argyle sweater. Top: military button blazer, Macy's $24.99 floral blazer, Mod Cloth $42.99 green plaid riding jacket, Nordstrom $98 (want!) Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2012

The Seraphim announced, "We have pulled light from the darkness, and day from the night. We have separated the murk into sea and land. What else shall we weave?" And the Maker said to them, "Let us blanket the sea with delicate petals. Their scent will fill the water and cast pastels upon the deep." "And we shall populate the deep with sirens made of pearls, coral, silver and glass. The sirens will be elusive and solitary, rare in a sea of a hundred thousand fish." "But if a woman of broken heart patiently rides the petals' wave, offering her tears to the ocean, a siren will come and sing her a heart-mending song. This then is how those in mourning will be washed of sorrow." Image source: vogue.com

Project Runway S9 E12: The Final Five

Image
For the final challenge of the season Tim whisked the designers off to Govener's Island for inspiration. They were given golf carts and time to explore before heading off to Mood with a $500 budget and the quest to create a three look collection that showed their range and earned them a spot at fashion week. This is the really the standard final challenge, and I'm glad they didn't mess with it. At this point, I don't think the designers need any twists or gimmicks. It's time for them to just show us what they have, what they've learned and what they hope to accomplish with a larger collection. However, none of the designers wowed me. Some of them did some unexpected work and stretched themselves, but I still wasn't blown away. This is Project Runway , I want to be blown away. Anya pushed herself the most. After last week's anything-but-basic little black dress, she wanted to show the judges she could rely on design rather than print. Anya also had the c...

Paris Fashion Week SS12: Dior, John Galliano

Image
Who: Christian Dior What it made us think of: The 1950s, when Dior was still big news, but less drama-rife. What we liked: Hips!... What we didn't: You can't help but feel bad for Bill Gaytenn, a long time Dior employee who's been tasked with designing in the post-Galliano interim. He's doing his best to make wearable, sellable clothing, but he spins me no dreams. Who: John Galliano What it made us think of: Mary Poppins takes the kids to the park on a sunny Saturday afternoon. What we liked: plaid, full skirts, boater hats, loafer shoes, Victorian jackets, rounded sleeves. Bill Gaytten seems much more confident helming this lower profile house than he does Dior. What we didn't: terrible bangs Image source: style.com and vogue.com .

Paris Fashion Week SS12: Manish Arora, Paco Rabanne,

Image
Who: Manish Arora What it made us think of: Me: "I'm looking at this really cool show but I don't know what to say about it. I'm getting the feeling of an Egyptian bird god...in space." Hubby: "So Stargate then." What we liked: birds, intricate details, metallic, (shockingly) the shoes, funky makeup, Wacktackular but plenty of wearability here for people who aren't Katy Perry. What we didn't: I liked a lot of things, but there were germ ideas for several shows here. I'd have rather seen them broken apart and developed more. Who: Paco Rabanne Why I'm excited: Manish Arora is helming the revival of this 60s house of flamboyance. Win. What we liked: hips!, sharp shoulders, the alligator shatter effect, metallic, crazy hats, paper dresses, perfect fits Image source: style.com and vogue.com .
