Jean Paul Gaultier For Target

My birthday is Friday, and everyone keeps asking what I want. Shopping, of course. Right now the best way to give me the gift of shopping it with Target gift cards so I can snap up pieces of the Jean Paul Gaultier for Target collection when it debuts March 7th.

I've always like Gaultier's sexification of menswear, which he demonstrates here in various pinstripe pieces and collar shirts re-imagined as corseted dresses. His bad boy reputation is also on display with tattoo prints, lingerie-inspired clothes and two leather jackets.
The collection also features some lovely dresses, nautical items, and a great trench. These pieces all fit with his collection theme of the evolving American woman, but since the designs, lovely as they may be, aren't as distinct to the designer, I think I'll pass.
Young designers wishing to have their own collaboration (and all Project Runway hopefuls) should take note of what this design veteran has done. Many of the pieces, like the menswear inspired ones and oh-so-feminine dresses, are made of inexpensive, reliable cotton. The skirts are available in a variety of lengths and shapes. Best of all, the limited items in the collection haven't already been sold or given away to industry editors and young movie stars. Now if this was just coming to South Bend, Indiana, I could be completely happy. (Stay tuned for my online purchasing adventures.)

Check for availability in your area on Target's website. Views pictures of all the clothes, complete with prices, at FabSugar.

I might snag the daisy dress if I can- I'm having a really hard time finding the sternum-baring dresses that are so popular at the moment.

Also, do we know of a more reliable way to find out which stores have the goods other than driving up to each Target in our state?

Robin, the website has an availability list. Also, you can call the store it lists to make sure they are actually getting it that day and if they are carrying all of it. (Some stores carried just the Rodarte t-shirts in my area, while others had a better selection).
