My Dream Wardrobe

If I could wear one thing all the time, it would be office attire. Pinstripes, blazers, silk shirts, tweed pencil skirts. The thought of them makes me quiver. And if you've been reading this blog for any period of time, you know that I love to take something with a clear image (professionalism, reserve, intelligence) and fiddle with it in every way imaginable (for example: tweed skirt, cashmere sweater, orange tights and a feathered headband with veil).

Most of my current corporate wardrobe was picked up at Banana Republic and Ann Taylor clearance sales, but if I had to rebuild the perfect closet, it would go as follows:

My splurge would be the Jackie O Classic sheath by Black Halo. They come out with a different color each season, but I'd stick with grey. It's classic but interesting. It would work for a meeting, presentation, meeting a client or running to dinner with my hubby. Plus, I can throw a shirt on it and wear it as a pencil skirt. This is a dress I'd plan to have forever, but the $350 price tag is alarming. Good thing it's 50% cheaper on ebay.

My major saves are blouses and skirts. Neither item is the focus point of my office look, so they don't need to be too interesting. I prefer good fabrics and colors here, but I may buy a few trend tops too. With the right cut, neither needs to be fitted so I pick up wool in April and linen in October.tulip skirt, Target $26.99
patterned pencil skirt, New York & Company $42.46
pinstripe pencil skirt, Victoria's Secret $39.50
soft shirred tank, Banana Republic $39.50
silk tie top, Max Studio $48
silk pleat blouse, Victoria's Secret $58

We won't talk pants because shopping for them makes me ragey, but am never without black and burgundy wide-leg dress pants.

Blazers are my statement items, so I end up with a blend of cheaper trend pieces and longer-lasting sale steals.Top: short tux jacket, French Connection at Bluefly $110.49
sharp edge short sleeved blazer, Forever 21 $24.80
fitted bow blazer, ASOS $101.98
Bottom: Chanel-style jacket, Anthropologie $148
green velvet jacket, Elie Tahari at Bloomingdale's $348.60 (I got one of these in black at TJ Maxx for about $70.)
military button bolero, Mod Cloth $42.99

Add colorful shoes and vintage jewelry for instant me.

mmm...I love the peach/beige blouse from Victoria Secret (still haven't gotten over my obsession with bell-sleeves...or sheer/floaty fabrics). Altho I won't wear it enough to justify buying it for >$30
