New York Fashion Week FW12: Carolina Herrera, Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra

Who: Carolina Herrera
What it made us think of: A sketch book full of natural, handmade papers dyed with berries
What we liked: navy, texture, just below the knee skirts, tie belts
What we didn't: awkward vamps on the shoes, the show's second half

Who: Proenza Schouler
What it made us think of: Star Trek costumers love boxy shapes, lamè and color blocking, and while this show reminds me of Ster Trek, I wouldn't call it sci-fi at all.
What we liked: pants!, asymmetricality, zips and snaps, wrap skirts, leather jackets, woven leather, Asian jacquard
What we didn't: I don't think the first few looks would actually look good on a woman, but I could see a confident guy working them. (Not the mini skirts. Man thighs aren't that pretty.)

Who: Altuzarra
What it made us think of: A Marine who retires to Siberia.
What we liked: bright winter prints, thigh-high boots, chunky knits, coin embellishments, leather, wide belts, strong shoulders, hip details, thick wool, coats
What we didn't: Some chunky knits veered into bat mat territory. Some coin embellishments were a little too gypsy.
