Editor's Pick of the Week: Perfect Suit Jacket

A black (or neutral color of your choice) suit jacket/blazer is a wardrobe essential that should be invested in. A cheap suit coat rarely fits well/looks good (except for the ones at H&M, which seem to made for me). This is why I usually watch for designer coats to go on clearance like this impressively reduced Lauren by Ralph Lauren Jacket.


The ruffled shawl collar is just the right touch. If I'm going to invest in a piece I like to keep it basic, but not without a little personality. This classic jacket will look stylish for year, but will also stand out a little from the sea of basic black blazers. Having been a regular on the Job Fair circuit for almost two years now, I've learned to keep things professional without blending in with the other suits. These subtle ruffles take this to the next level without being too trendy, too young, or too over the top to be taken seriously.


Wear it with black trousers, a jewel-tone shell, colored but simple pumps and your favorite small charm necklace for a job interview. Pair it with jeans for a put together weekend or casual Friday look. Layer it over a long voluminous shirt (or a super short dress) and cigarette pants/skinny jeans for a youthful, trendy look. Wear it over sun dress and tights then belt everything to give winter-worthy weight to your summer waredrobe. October is the perfect month for anyone who loves a dramatic look. Because of Halloween, you can get away with more in the makeup department than you can the rest of the year. You want to try false eyelashes? Go for it. You want to color your eyebrows? Do it. Color outside the lines with eyeshadow? Why not? Live it up so much in October that people will think black lipstick in November is practically normal.
