Paris Fashion Week SS10: The Japanese
Junya Watanabe set forth a more wearable collection than fall's puffer coat extravaganza. So wearable that I want every single piece of clothing from this collection. In fact, I would sacrifice my right to wear anything but these clothes all season if someone would give me these menswear-as-womenswear clothes. WANT! 
Yohji Yamamoto forgot to tell his makeup and hair people that he was scaling back for the recession. He sent out a bunch of tame, wearable clothing in place of his usual avant garde looks. Not only has the recession striped me of a job, any money and the ability to go shopping, but it has also deprived me of the joy of watching crazy-awesome fashion shows.
Issey Miyake tried to do a tour of world fashions, but ended up with a random mishmash that didn't hang together or build on itself at all. Of course, there are some good pieces, some amazing creative ideas and some excellent craftsmanship, but as a show it just felt jumbled and sloppy, which is never a good look.
Comme des Garçons always enchants me. The pieces together may look crazy and too strange to wear, but I always think about what amazing statement pieces each of the items would make. The only thing I didn't like was the layering of the bike shorts of leggings. I loved the leather shoulder and hip braces and would love to own them. I also want to own the polka dot dresses from the end of the show. Comme des Garçons know how to make clothing people would still want during a recession without boring us all to death.
