New York Fashion Week Favorites So Far
BCBG Max Azria is one of the few designers at New York Fashion Week I can even fathom affording, so I look forward to that show with extra excitement. The metallic legs are a distinct look that is easily worked into your everyday wardrobe. Overall, the show featured comfortable, drop-waisted dresses with a loose feel. Velvet and satin were used heavily. I have to say though, those clod-hopper shoes are horrible.
Usually, I love Nicole Miller, but this show left me flat. I kept thinking, "These are basics." I understand that designers playing to marketability and repeated wear in this economy, but I've seen basics that catch my eye because of the unique color or exquisite cut. Most of these clothes were black, and the spiderweb print was exactly not what I want. I did, however, like her jackets, and any look with cobalt blue was well-executed. (Maybe I just have a color bias?)
Chain and zip embellishments, menswear styling, wearable ensembles with oomph. Does Laura Poretzky, the designer for Abaete, know me? This is how you make basics in black interesting. (Those chain trim booties are for a diffusion line at Payless!)
Jason Wu's collection is fit for a first lady. The prints are pretty but not overly bold. The cuts are classy and comfortable. Wu stirs together reliable black with more eye-catching colors. I want all of it for my work wardrobe.
