Maybe celebrities are toning things down because of the economy, because standard
black was the color of the night. Thankfully, standard did not mean safe for everyone. Jordin Sparks wore a black gown patterned with roses and a fun curlicue bust line. Kudos for supporting a designer from her home state.
Seeing as they were glued to each other the entire night, I can't help but think Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift went shopping together for floor sweeping black gowns. I think Miley did a great job of dressing for her age. I'm sure some people will debate Swift's deep cut, but it works for a 19-year-old. What do you think?

Several women showed up in cocktail-length dresses. British songbird Adele covered hers with an apple green coat while her fellow nominee, Duffy, went for an interesting neckline. Jennifer Hudson wore a daring origami, monochrome number that could have gone horribly wrong, but it managed to walk the line between interesting and understated. That's not easy for supermodels, let alone a woman with a figure fashion forgot.

Ever the standout, Janelle Monae arrived in a dapper suit and pompadour, an ensemble that is quickly becoming this a trademark for this overlooked talent. What? You don't know who Janelle Monae is? Get thee to youtube! Her quirky style I will save for another post.
