Buying Into Ruffles
Whether you like them big, small or not at all, ruffles are here for spring. It is an undeniably feminine trend, but you can always toughen it up with accessories like the belted suit below.
The tiered look is big for skirts, and they're either wide and flat or bunched up in an 80s puff. I do like how the puffy blue skirt below was styled with a plain white button down shirt. Ruffle trim is the way to go for the shy experimenter. It softens the suit and suspendered skirt. Sorry the images aren't bigger, but you can click to enlarge.

Ruffled tops are usually designed as trim or a bib. You can pair ruffle trimmed items with almost anything, but be wary of the volume on the bottom of your outfit if you wear a ruffled bib top. Personally, I love the contrast of bibbed tops under a mannish blazer.

Girly girls can't help but love ruffled dresses. Even the tube and trapeze take on a softer shape with the addition of a ruffle. Since this is a huge trend for Spring Summer 2008, it's not too hard to find affordable dresses inspired by designer looks. The jersey dress from Victoria's Secret is very Lanvin, and the BCBG reminds me of Miu Miu's harlequin show.
